This well-done coffee table format book offers an interesting look at the early sketches, drawings, and finished prints of Roy Lichtenstein, covering the years 1961 through 1969, arguably the man's best and most original work.Diane Waldman offers a short but insightful introduction to the book, well worth reading for a greater understanding of what made Lichtenstein's early work so important.The book's other chapters focus first on a full catalogue of drawings done 1961-1969, all in black and white, including dates, provenance, and dimensions; a chapter of studies done which gives the a look at Lichtenstein at work, a few of them in colored pencil; and finally a catalogue of prints done 1962-1969. Again, these are all in black and white.It would have been preferable obviously to have at least the prints rendered in full color. To that extent, the book is not really complete, and is a little of a let down. However, the compilation of these various works, covering Lichtenstein's early years, remains of value and of interest.
